We can tune into the goodness of the world that’s not always featured in the news. As William Carlos Williams wrote: “It is difficult/to get the news from poems/though men die miserably every day/for lack/of what is found there.” When people asked my teacher Ajahn Chah questions, he would often smile and say, “It’s uncertain, isn’t it?” Yes, the world is imperfect. Instead of struggling to perfect the world, when we rest in uncertainty, we can then act with compassion and give our best without attachment to the outcome. We can learn to bring fearlessness to any circumstance. This is an invitation to understand equanimity and to see with the eyes of wisdom.
